2016 AIA KY/IN Convention

Join us in Lexington, Kentucky for the 2016 AIA Kentucky/AIA Indiana Convention!  To build upon our theme "CRAFT: Distilling Design," we make connections between our bourbon distillery heritage, our local and regional craft bourbon/beer boom, and the concept of CRAFT in architecture and design to explore the many contexts and meanings of CRAFT. Our educational programming has been CRAFTed to provide a wide range of learning opportunities within a loose three-track framework:

  • Design
  • Practice
  • Building Science/Technology
  • plus a special program for Emerging Professionals on Saturday

Three Keynote Design Presentations and 25 Breakout Education Sessions are available, featuring a wonderfully diverse group of topics and presenters from across the region and beyond.

We also have two fabulous and fun Social Events planned:

  • Big Ass Design Build Bourbon Blast - Join us Thursday evening at the Woodford Reserve Club at UK Commonwealth Stadium for this exciting evening that includes a Woodford Reserve-hosted bourbon tasting, buffet dinner, silent auction, live music, a raffle and a cash bar. Our fundraising partner this year is the ACE (Architecture, Construction, Engineering) Mentor Scholarship Program. ACE, besides providing an introduction to the construction industry to high school students, also provides renewable scholarship opportunities to students who have completed the ACE program and have been accepted into an accredited Architectural, Construction or Engineering college degree program. Help motivated and interested young people enter our optimistic industry of design & construction. Let's Party!
  • Happy Hour Garden Party - You won't want to miss Friday's Happy Hour in the gardens of Botherum, the home of famed garden designer Jon Carloftis and his partner Dale Fisher. Jon and Dale have graciously made this unique venue available to us, located less than 5 minutes by foot from the Hyatt/Lexington Center, with refreshments from The Apiary's Cooper Vaughn. It's a perfect way to relax with colleagues and friends after one or two days of intense learning. We're making a donation to Jon's favorite charity Chrysalis House in recognition of his generous willingness to enhance the convention experience for our attendees!
